Fresh excavations in Norfolk shed new light on its largest Roman town

The dig, which took place between Monday, August 18 and Saturday, August 30, investigated the early 2nd century defensive ditches that run through the hotel paddock.

These form part of a large defensive enclosure around the Roman town and their excavation has only occurred on two other occasions - south of the settlement in 2012 and north-east in 2016.

The ditch fills and associated features, which include personal and religious items, pottery vessels and both human and animal burials - have provided important evidence for CRP’s understanding of life at the town.
