Ian Cowling, of the Railway public house in Wymondham, was found dead on October 13 last year. 

An inquest into the 56-year-old's death was recently opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court where it was heard his medical cause of death was from “acute cocaine toxicity”.

Area coroner Johanna Thompson confirmed to the court that Mr Cowling had been identified by a friend. 

Ahead of a full inquest in June, she requested statements from medical practitioners and investigating officers. 

She also invited the family to provide a pen portrait.

Following Mr Cowling’s death, the pub paid tribute to him on its website while confirming the pub, based on Station Road, was closed. 

It said: “It’s with great sadness that the Railway is closed for the time being – This follows the recent and untimely death of Ian Cowling.  

“Ian was from day one the architect of everything we did with our food and menus, he was solely responsible for the success we have for our food offering and so much more.  

“He was a big character who was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed.”
