Holidaymaker who died after falling from Broads cruiser could not swim

Callum Bell went into the water from the stern of a Barnes Brinkcraft hireboat while it was moored in Great Yarmouth on August 20 last year.

An inquest into his death heard the holiday-maker, from Skegness, had travelled to Norfolk with family to celebrate his partner's 60th birthday - and his recent recovery from a stroke.

The party had side-moored the eight-berth cruiser in Yarmouth and Mr Bell and his brother had ventured into the town, where they visited pubs, returning at around 8.30pm.

But tragedy struck when Mr Bell attempted to climb back onto the vessel.

In a statement read to the court, Mark Bell described how his brother had attempted to crawl on board and had asked for help.

He said: "I told him to grab my hand as there was nothing else and no barriers to stop him from rolling in."

However, he said the 58-year-old then appeared to slip and fell into the water and was carried........
