Village to 'secretly' remove Union Jack flags after flower display mix-up
But locals in Filby are concerned this year's efforts might have been undermined somewhat... by the Union Jack.
As in other communities around Britain, the national flag has been fixed to lampposts as part of a controversial grassroots initiative to promote patriotism.
In Filby, many of the flags have gone up on the same posts as those with hanging baskets.
Their appearance has alarmed villagers, who are worried visitors might think the flags - some of which are upside down and at half mast - are part of its entry for the Britain in Bloom competition, the results of which are announced this month.

The matter was raised by a member of the public at a recent parish council meeting where members agreed that action had to be taken, with councillors voting unanimously to quietly remove the flags, which they said were part of a "right wing political agenda".
Meanwhile, the Filby in Bloom group - fearing people might connect the flags to its floral displays - has issued an unprecedented statement clarifying that it is a "non-political" organisation.
The fuss has led to grumbles in the village, with many suggesting the parish council and flower group have overreacted.
