The Grade II listed Victorian glasshouse on Marine Parade, which closed in 2008 due to safety concerns, is now the focus of a regeneration project that promises to restore its grandeur and reinvent it as a vibrant community hub.

Workers have moved onto the site, installing hoardings and preparing for the restoration.

On Monday, October 6, architects, engineers and council officials toured the building to mark the start of the enabling works.

VINCI Building, recently appointed as the main contractor, has begun clearing the area and constructing site offices.

Regional director Paul Tumelty said: "We're really proud to be involved. It's a project with a purpose for the people of Great Yarmouth.

"It will be for everyone. It's one of those places which will be a real focal point for the community.

"When people see how the National Lottery are putting money into a place like this, it brings hope and a sense of the future," he added.
