But this is no ordinary fairground, as the attractions are part of a new adventure park at Thursford.

The playground – which spans a whopping 30,000 sq foot – has been designed with a vintage carnival theme.

Project manager George Cushing said the park – called Thursford Adventure Play Fair – was built to encourage children to visit the adjacent Steam Engine Museum, see the old locomotives, and be excited about the Age of Steam.

“We thought a good way to do that would be to develop a play area, designed around the theme of an old-school fairground,” he said.
