Man makes £1,000 bet with woman to explain offside rule

John Duffield was dining in a local restaurant last month when he boldly claimed no woman could explain football’s notoriously tricky offside rule.
Elaine Charlton - a surname with a strong footballing pedigree - gave the perfect answer... and true to his word, Mr Duffield coughed up the money, a not-to-be-sniffed-at £1,000.
Rather than pocket the winnings, Ms Charlton donated the sum to Ataxia UK, a charity funding research into the rare neurological condition.
