But off the coast of Great Yarmouth, a technological drama is unfolding as a giant walking barge dismantles a towering wind turbine gutted by fire two years ago.

WaveWalker 1 has been working at the wreck of turbine T06 on the Scroby Sands offshore wind farm, recently removing two of its blades.

T06 was destroyed on August 15, 2023, when flames tore through its nacelle — the turbine’s heart housing its generator — leaving behind a blackened, skeletal frame.

Now energy company RWE is overseeing its demolition, with the operation expected to run into mid-October.
