The government has launched a consultation over what will be the biggest change to local councils in 50 years - transforming who provides services to the public across the county.

All eight councils - Norfolk County Council, Norwich City Council, West Norfolk Council, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, North Norfolk Council, South Norfolk Council, Broadland Council and Breckland Council - stand to be scrapped through Labour's local government reorganisation plan.

They would be replaced by one or more unitary councils, providing all services, unlike the current two-tier system.

The idea has been controversial and has caused deep divides within Norfolk's local councils.
