Terry Jermy, who represents South West Norfolk, raised his concerns about the future of the plant at Thetford in the first Westminster debate he has secured.

The site, run by Melton Renewable Energy, was built in 1999 and is the largest of its kind in Europe.

It burns chicken litter, such as droppings and feathers, to generate energy, with the ash produced sold as fertiliser.
