Anger grows as crunch decision looms over homes at former golf club

An application by Persimmon to vary the conditions agreed for its 1,000-home development at the former Royal Norwich Golf Club in Hellesdon is due to be decided by members of Broadland District Council's planning committee this week.

The bid is controversial and has sparked opposition because it would mean some 150 affordable homes would not be built and more trees than initially agreed - when permission was granted in 2016 - would be cut down on the site, off Drayton High Road.

Councillors had been due to make a decision last month, at which point the developer was saying it wanted to be excused from providing any further affordable homes.

The company said because of rising build costs and part of the site not being suitable for development due to surface water flow concerns, it was now likely to only build 780 of the initially proposed 1,000 homes - making it unviable to offer as many affordable homes.

But the decision was not made........
