Wensum valley farmers told why soil health depends on 'roots not shoots'

Around 20 members of the Wensum Farmers cluster group gathered at Mill Farm in Bintree, near Fakenham, for a discussion on soil biology.

They were joined by Joel Williams of Integrated Soils, an independent educator and science communicator, originally from Australia but based in Canada.

He explained the benefits of plant diversity and livestock grazing, and then dug a soil sample from the edge of an oilseed rape field to compare it with soil from a pasture to show the differences in structure, organic matter, porosity and worm counts.
