Cheffins has reported Q2 sales which are up 85pc on the previous quarter, and a 30pc rise year-on-year.

The figures included the flagship Cambridge Machinery Sales at the firm’s dedicated saleground at Sutton, near Ely, and its April Vintage Auction.

But the strong growth was mainly driven by the firm's on-site auctions at farms across the UK, which generated £11.3m in sales, compared with £3.5m during the same period last year.

This was achieved despite conducting fewer auctions, with 17 sales held during the quarter compared with 20 the previous year.
