Farmers welcome funding lifeline as nature payments extended for one year
Defra has announced a one-year rollover for Countryside Stewardship Mid Tier (CS MT) agreements, which were set to expire at the end of the year.
This will ensure that more than 5,000 farmers will continue to receive funding for nature-friendly practices such as creating wildflower margins, bird habitats and species-rich grassland.
The decision, announced by farming minister Dame Angela Eagle, follows months of campaigning from farming organisations.
Defra says the one-off investment of up to £70m "ensures farmers have the certainty and support they need" to continue to help restore nature alongside profitable food production.
