British Sugar agrees reduced price with beet farmers amid 'challenging conditions'
The annual negotiations between the processor and the National Farmers' Union's sugar board (NFU Sugar) has resulted in a one-year fixed price contract at £30 per tonne, for up to 65pc of the contract.
The figure is down from the £33/t offered last year, but farming leaders said the contract - which includes flexible options to manage risk - reflected a good deal for growers, considering the ongoing difficult trading conditions in the sugar market.
