Agriculture leader urges Norfolk farmers to keep pressing MPs for tax changes
National Farmers' Union (NFU) president Tom Bradshaw spoke at the Norfolk NFU branch's annual meeting at Park Farm Hotel in Hethersett.
He said there was a "cloud hanging over the industry" - with arable challenges including low commodity prices, extreme weather and water availability issues, while livestock farmers are struggling with bluetongue and devastating bird flu virus outbreaks.
Politics is also a contributing factor, he said, with subsidy withdrawals and this year's sudden closure of the sustainable farming incentive (SFI) proving that government support payments could no longer be relied on for business resilience.
He also gave an update on the controversial "Family Farm Tax".
