'A towering figure' - Tributes paid to veteran farmer and journalist David Richardson

David Richardson, whose family farms near Wymondham, was a prominent character in both agriculture and the media - earning a reputation for uncompromising analysis of rural issues during a journalism career spanning more than 50 years.

His straight-talking style and fearless opinions made him a compelling commentator on farming issues on TV and radio shows, as well as in magazine columns.

Norfolk farmer David Richardson, centre, filming for the BBC in 1970 (Image: Antony Kelly) But he was also a proud and passionate countryside champion who worked tirelessly to promote and develop British agriculture - leading countless rural organisations and winning a long list of industry honours.

Mr Richardson was made an OBE for his work in 2000, and other accolades include becoming a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies (FRAgS) and winning the 2004 Sir Timothy Colman prize presented by the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, of which he was president in 2003.

He was also recognised with a Lifetime Achievement honour at the national Farmers Weekly Awards in 2015.

Online tributes from across the country described Mr Richardson as "a true great among farmers and journalists" and a "legend" who had "has helped shape the industry we know today".........
