Villagers win battle to stop homes being built on leafy lane
West Norfolk Council has refused outline permission for four new houses on Meadowgate Lane in Emneth, near Wisbech.
A planning officer's report said the proposals would lead to the loss of protected trees and hedgerow, which add to the "verdant character" of the lane.
The council's tree officer said the plans would cause "substantial harm to this character", adding the trees were "veteran" specimens which bring "significant biodiversity value".
