Locals tried to sink the Ship Hotel at Brancaster's proposals for the terrace of properties in what was formerly a neighbouring garden.

But West Norfolk Council has approved the plans despite more than a dozen objections.

One opponent said: "This latest application is an over development of the site with the loss of a garden area and mature trees.

"This will be a very large building close to other historic buildings in the village."
