How thousands of tonnes of rock from Norway could save Norfolk town from the sea

More than a metre of sand has been washed away from the beach in front of the Green at Hunstanton, including some 40cm this summer.

Loss of material over recent years has left more than 1.5m of the sheet pilings - which protect the bottom of the promenade - exposed to the elements.

Dave Robson, West Norfolk Council's environmental health manager, said cracks and movement have also been detected in the sea wall, with engineers saying repairs need to be carried out to ensure the wall does not become weakened.
