Now the house next door to their 800-year-old ruined castle has come under siege from council officials over more modern fortifications.

The fence which has been refused planning permission at Middleton (Image: Chris Bishop) West Norfolk Council has refused Linda Coull's retrospective planning applications for a fence put up behind her property at Middleton, near King's Lynn.

The house on Mount Park Close overlooks Middleton Mount, where a ditch and mound is all that remains of an 11th century stronghold.
