Calls grow for cul-de-sac named after priest accused of abusing pupils to be renamed

Canon Pott Close in Heacham commemorates former village vicar Roger Pott, who also ran St Michael's School at nearby Ingoldisthorpe between 1946 and 1969.

Decades after he died at the age of 83 in 1992, former pupils have come forward alleging they were subjected to sadistic punishment by Pott, who went on to become a Canon of Norwich Cathedral.

They want the name to be removed from the cul-de-sac off Station Road, because it brings back painful recollections of the abuse they suffered. But they have so far been stalled by officials.

"I was just walking along the road one day when I saw it," he said. "I just got a feeling of revulsion and nausea.

"I thought what the hell are they doing, then I realised it had all been swept under the carpet, no-one in Heacham knew about it because it had all been hushed up."
