REVEALED: Why council has boarded up 11 buildings in the last four years
A Freedom of Information request made by this newspaper to Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC) revealed reasons why certain buildings were secured between January 2021 and January 2025.
Eight of the reasons the council provided referred to preventing further antisocial behaviour (ASB) from occurring in them.
Though preventing antisocial behaviour in the buildings for those eight were not always the only reason provided. The council added that The Star, which closed in March 2020, was boarded up initially in May 2022 and The Victory Hotel was boarded up in April 2023.
