'Teething problems' as £2m town centre restructuring causes taxi drivers 'chaos'

The £2m initiative from Norfolk County Council to modify bus routes around Market Gates Shopping Centre means the taxi rank outside The Troll Cart pub, a fixture for around 30 years, is being dug up.

This is to allow for a new bus lane to be created, which will run in the opposite direction from the current flow of traffic.

But in the first days of the scheme being in operation, drivers have called the move "chaos" as "teething problems" emerge.

A taxi driver, who has worked in Great Yarmouth for almost 30 years, said that the signs directing people from Market Gates to the other rank were "childish".

"They can spend £2m on improving things for the buses, but look how awful the signs directly us to our new main location are, they are embarrassingly bad.

"It looks like a child has just written taxi on a small placard and stuck it on the........
