Georgie Theo, 28, was at the wheel of a Kia Sportage when it mounted the kerb and crashed into a bus stop near Wymondham High Academy.

The incident saw a 13-year-old pupil taken to hospital and another pupil had to jump into a hedge to avoid being struck.

Following the crash, the car was found by police officers abandoned nearby, while the driver was seen running away across a field.

Theo, of Fairlight Avenue in Ramsgate, was subsequently arrested in Kent.

He was jailed for 36 weeks and banned from driving for two years and four months.
