Port reveals early expansion plans set to create 700 jobs a year

Lowestoft port and the new Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF) already support more than 1,000 local jobs, contributing £120m to the region's economy, according to operator Associated British Ports (ABP).

The £35m investment included 350 meters of new deepwater quayside, enabling the port to accommodate larger vessels for the offshore wind and oil and gas industries, as well as six pontoon berths for crew transfer vessels, used to take technicians out to wind farms from the outer harbour.

Tom Duit, ABP's operations manager at the Port of Lowestoft - the UK's most easterly port - said LEEF has "exceeded all expectations" in its first year of operation.

"We have welcomed hundreds of new vessels in the last year, which represents entirely new growth for the port," he said.
