Read Brothers, based at Sweet Briar Industrial Estate, has been a supplier of softwoods, hardwoods and timber sheet materials in the city for 44 years.

Having worked for a national chain of timber merchants for a quarter of a century, it was always Ray Read’s dream to run his own timber company.

However, when he died suddenly in 1980 his four sons, Steve, Brian, Jon and Glenn, and wife Betty, fulfilled that dream and began trading from the current site in Norwich the following year.

From humble beginnings, Read Brothers grew enough for Mallison Denny........
