The sportscar manufacturer employs around 1,300 staff at its Hethel factory.

Lotus previously denied reports that it was planning to close the site to relocate its UK production to the US.

In June, its Chinese owners, Geely, said it remained committed the UK and had no plans to close the Hethel plant.

However, confirming the latest job cuts this morning (Thursday, August 28), the company said the decision has been made as part of a wider restructuring of Lotus Cars.

In a statement, Lotus said: “The proposal is designed to enable Lotus Cars to operate with a flexible and agile business model, allowing it to ramp operations and resources in line with demand, as and when needed.
