Bitter feud over seaside landmark saw Cartier watch used as 'bribe'

The High Court in London heard how former friends Sotiris Christophi, an accountant, and Dr Sanjay Kaushal, a care home owner, fell out after jointly funding the purchase and redevelopment of the tower in November 2021.

Mr Christophi, a director of accountancy firm Aston Shaw, brought the case to court claiming that he and Dr Kaushal, the owner of Castlemeadow Care, had agreed to split the ownership of the company behind the purchase, RP Design and Construction Limited (RPD), equally.

Dr Kaushal denied this, saying Mr Christophi’s financial contribution was a loan and not an investment.

Deputy High Court Judge Saira Salimi rejected Mr Christophi's claim.

However, the judge said “on the balance of probabilities” it was likelier that it was an attempted bribe, which proved unsuccessful.
