A shadow looms over the Labour government amid concerns that it may have slashed the rising benefits bill too aggressively. Billions in savings are forecasted as a result of overhauls to Personal Independent Payments (PIP) eligibility criteria, sparking fears that Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall may have overstepped the mark.

Addressing Parliament, Ms Kendall described the social security system left by the Conservatives as one that fails those it should support and constrains national progress, with countless individuals trapped relying on benefits instead of enjoying the dignity of work. Yet, she emphasised that the welfare system's commitment to helping those truly in need remains unshakable.

Under plans intended to save £5 billion annually by 2029/30, extensive reforms to PIP were disclosed in Parliament. The government intends to eliminate the "complex" and "time-consuming"........
