Keir Starmer has issued a stark warning to councils regarding the urgency of showing visible progress on pothole repairs or facing the possibility of losing road maintenance funding.
From next month, local authorities are poised to start receiving their share of a £1.6 billion fund allocated for highway upkeep, supplemented by an additional £500 million provided by the Department for Transport (DfT). The DfT has estimated that this budget should suffice to repair up to seven million potholes each year.
