If you are looking at buying or selling property, it is important to have an idea about property type ratios, as well as value ratios.

The B.C. Interior’s real estate markets have seen remarkable diversity in property sales over the past year, with more than 5,000 transactions recorded across the region over the last six months. From compact apartments to sprawling acreages, buyers are navigating a market that blends urban convenience with rural charm and price points that vary dramatically by property type and age.

Property type breakdown

Apartments had more than 900 sales and an average price of about $447,000. Their compact size (averaging around 1,000 square feet) results in a price per square foot of near $454, making them a relatively affordable entry point for first-time buyers or investors.

Single-family detached homes—the staple of the Okanagan housing market—accounted for more than 2,500 sales. Those properties command higher absolute prices, averaging just over $917,000, with typical floor areas larger than 2,400 square feet.
