"To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical." ~ Thomas Jefferson
For the first 200 years of America’s existence, being a recipient of charity was viewed as shameful and humiliating. Any man who could not support himself and/or his family viewed himself as not being a man.
Then along came “The Great Society,” created by Democrats to allow the government to redistribute taxpayers’ wealth in any way the government wanted, and they called it welfare. As Democrats and government bureaucrats are wont to do, they tried to dream up a “one size fits all” bureaucracy because they think they are smarter than American citizens when it comes to spending taxpayers’ money.
Until the Great Society, charity was handled at the local level by churches and other civic groups. The advantage of this system was that local organizations could better understand who needed what help and how much funding was necessary for each situation. Charity is always situational and rarely needed forever in the case of honest well-adjusted people.
"Dependence leads to subservience." ~ Thomas Jefferson
In 2026, after uncovering the massive fraud and misappropriation of American taxpayer money, we know the truth of the situation. The Socialist Democrat Party has grown a massive “welfare system” into a massive “vote-buying” scheme by making tens of million of people dependent on government “welfare.”
"Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." ~ James Madison
However, fortunately for Americans, the welfare scheme has blown up in the Socialist Democrat’s faces when they added tens of millions of illegal aliens to the federal welfare rolls. Those oh-so-smart, anti-American, Socialist Democrats basically crashed (or trashed) the welfare system. Not only that, but the entire system of the federal government redistribution of wealth scheme has exposed the massive amount of fraud in nearly every corner of the “charity” businesses the government should not even have been involved in, in the first place.
Welfare has become a lifestyle that pays much better for too many people than what actual working people earn for a living. That is cruel and unusual punishment for every hard-working American taxpayer. In my opinion, government welfare is wrong. However, if the government is going to provide welfare benefits, it should provide only subsistence level benefits, not provide a lifestyle better than many working Americans. It is well past time to get people off the welfare rolls and on to the taxpayer rolls.
After a 55 year career as a professional pilot in the military, in law enforcement, in the private sector, and in federal civil service, I am now retired.
In many of these positions I repeatedly took an oath to defend the United States Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.
