This is the time of year when you start to see a lot of “best of lists” for the year that’s ending, and also predictions for the upcoming year. I get emails about everything from upcoming restaurant trends and condiment flavors to clothing styles and baby names. I also get emails about color choices, ranging from bedroom and kitchen colors to KitchenAid appliance colors.

For me, these are things that are interesting to browse, but I can’t say the choices ever really influenced me or my better half one way or the other. If we’re painting or buying a new appliance, we still choose colors we like, not ones some marketing firm decided were the best.

That said, Pantone is a huge influencer. Pantone is a color identification system and catalog designed to ensure consistency and accuracy of color across various mediums for designers, manufacturers, and consumers. Each color is assigned a unique code, helping to streamline the manufacturing process.
