Let Music of Yesterday Keep You On An Even Keel In A Troubled World We Don’t Recognize Anymore

In an era where the whole world seems to be going wonkier by day, when it is unsafe to open your door, without knowing who’s standing there waiting, and where folk, including little children, are reluctant to go to bed at night because of the dread of nightmares, Canada Free Press (CFP) is posting a 97-strong song list that we hope will unleash memories of happier days for all who come across it.

In memory these songs take us back to the days when men were men and women were women in a new day where everything’s politicized that can get us fined and even arrested for just saying so; back to the days when entertainment wasn’t cloaked as “news”, claiming that so-and-so is “stunning” fans in her latest string bikini at age 67.

Nowadays just tapping on to the ‘Net can leave you feeling depressed. Admitting to Depression is potentially dangerous in an era where countries like Canada can get you physician-assisted suicide (MAID) on the same day of request; a country whose wait times for basic hospital services can stretch into weeks and months.

Getting back to musical memories, CFP’s Brian, the epitome of kindness, came up with this list, called ‘Judi’s Favorites’ when financial setbacks caused us to give up on Sirius Radio.

Long winter days and nights seemed ever longer when there was no music playing in the background in what I call “Mary’s House By The Sea”.

“What songs do you miss hearing most?” he asked me. I rhymed off all of my favorite tunes, and he searched them out for capture on ‘Judi’s Favorites’ list.

We already had Fats Domino’s ‘Red Sails In The Sunset’, which I consider the song’s best version, taking it up to Lobster Bay on our IPad to hear when we viewed stunning sunsets over the raw Atlantic Ocean, a breath-taking view, just a 5-minute drive from our house.

Hard to say which other songs of the past are my favorites. I can tell you that they include Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, the immense talent of Sammy Davis Jr. and so many others.

Hearing laid-back crooner Dean Martin singing ‘Little Old Wine Drinker Me’ always brings a smile to my face. But it will always be the guitar strings of the great Duane Eddy that make him King of MY Heart.

Will we ever see the like of their talent again?

Meanwhile, here is my wish that listening to this music of the past does what it does for me for you in these hardscrabble, tough times when nothing seems the same anymore.

The videos that come with the songs can be banished with the single tap of a finger.

Talented singers of the past don’t just shepherd us back to happier days, but dwell in our lives forever!
