E-scooters slammed as 'a dangerous nuisance' as police crack down on riders
Cambridgeshire Live readers have been discussing the news that the Huntingdon neighbourhood policing team has launched a campaign against illegally ridden electric scooters. The project has resulted in the confiscation of 68 scooters from users within a three-day period.
The police action, described as 'proactive' by the officers, came about due to mounting concerns and reported incidents involving the e-scooters raised by local residents. Officers also seized four e-bikes capable of speeds over 30mph, which were taken off the streets across Huntingdon and nearby areas including Hartford, Brampton, Yaxley, St Ives, St Neots, and their surrounding villages.
A significant number of the culprits were under the age of 18, with the youngest being only eight years old. There was often more than one passenger on each e-scooter.
