Braid: With monster fine and ban on words, UCP locks down political landscape

Oops, sorry. I unwittingly prompted the UCP to raise a fine from $10,000 to $1 million.

Bill 14, introduced Thursday, reacted fiercely to any hint that signatures collected during a referendum drive would be used for partisan political purposes.

On Oct. 9, I wrote in a column that Thomas Lukaszuk is sitting on a treasure chest of voter data and might even start a new party.

The former Progressive Conservative deputy premier collected more than 400,000 valid signatures for his Forever Canadian campaign.
