“Why are you out to get me?”

Cameron Green is upset and causing quite the scene outside Western Australia’s dressing room following day three of their Sheffield Shield match against NSW in Sydney.

This is not a cricketer who appears in a good headspace, when it comes to his game. His WA assistant coach, Beau Casson, can see that as he walks over to intervene.

Earlier in the day, the media were invited to Cricket NSW headquarters at Sydney Olympic Park to interview Green. He had reached triple figures the day before – his first hundred in any format since August – before being dismissed for a well-made 135.

Considering Green hasn’t spoken to the media since mid-December, in between the second and third Ashes Tests, it seemed worthwhile attending.

After an afternoon waiting for play to finish, and with a deadline approaching, word came through at 6.15pm that Green was now refusing to do an interview.

That’s odd for a player who’d just made a hundred and is paid a handsome salary by Cricket Australia to promote the game. Clearly, Green has been allowed to pick and choose when it suits him to talk.

After about 10 minutes, I’m told I can chat to Green for two minutes but can only ask about the Shield match. The inference is that his Ashes campaign (171 runs at 24.42 with a top score of 45), T20 World Cup tournament (24 runs at an average of eight), and apology to Pakistan spinner........
