A new political and legal storm is brewing in the United States after First Lady Melania Trump threatened to sue Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, for a staggering $1 billion. The threat comes in response to Biden’s explosive public remarks linking her to the late disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – a claim Melania calls “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory.”

The controversy ignited earlier this month during a YouTube interview between Hunter Biden and Andrew Callaghan, host of the popular Channel 5 program. In the conversation, Biden alleged that Epstein was the one who had introduced Melania to Donald Trump, citing controversial claims from journalist Michael Wolff’s work.

According to Biden, the connections between Epstein and the Trump family were “so wide and deep” that it was unsurprising to him such an introduction could have occurred. He referenced Wolff’s reporting, as well as several other publications, as his basis for repeating the allegation.

These remarks immediately drew outrage from the First Lady’s camp. On August 6, Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, sent a formal cease-and-desist letter to Biden demanding an immediate retraction. The letter, which quickly found its way into the hands of the US media, threatened a $1 billion lawsuit to “recover the overwhelming financial and reputational harm” allegedly caused by Biden’s statements.

“Mrs. Trump will not tolerate lies that impugn her character, integrity, or her personal history,” the letter reportedly stated. “Your statements were made with reckless disregard for the truth and have caused her severe harm in both her public and private life.”
