Moscow confirms timeline for Russia-US talks amid Ukraine ceasefire proposal

In a significant diplomatic move, Russia and the United States have begun discussions in Moscow regarding the outcomes of the March 11 negotiations between Washington and Kiev in Saudi Arabia. US special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in the Russian capital at 13:30 local time on March 13, with his motorcade proceeding directly to the Kremlin, underscoring the seriousness of the ongoing discussions.

The diplomatic engagement follows the recent meeting in Jeddah, where Ukrainian and American representatives agreed on a proposed 30-day ceasefire. In return, the United States announced the resumption of military aid and intelligence-sharing with Ukraine, marking a crucial shift in its support strategy after nearly 9.5 hours of negotiations.

A joint statement issued after the meeting confirmed that Ukrainian officials had accepted the ceasefire, signaling an effort to de-escalate hostilities. However, the broader implications of the proposal remain uncertain, particularly as Moscow has yet to receive an official truce proposal.

Speaking at a press briefing on March 11, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova emphasized that Moscow had carefully examined the results of the Saudi talks but reiterated that no formal ceasefire proposal had been presented to the Kremlin.
