Boosting Tokyo-Seoul ties

There is a near consensus across the contemporary East Asian strategic spectrum that Japan and South Korea must come closer in order to foster peace and development in the region. It counsels the leaderships in the two nations to reasonably address the contentious issues, such as “wartime labour” and “comfort women,”  that continue to deter the natural development of   their overall ties .

One thinks Japan could play a crucial role in addressing these deterrents today. It is relatively developed. It has a much longer history of democracy than South Korea has. It could take to self- introspection and genuinely admit what happened to the Korean “wartime labor” and “comfort women” during its imperial years (1910-1945). According to one estimate, the imperial Japanese Armed Forces forced over 200,000 women —from Korea,........
