Musk condemns Romania’s arrest of presidential candidate Calin Georgescu
The arrest of Romanian politician Calin Georgescu has sparked international controversy, with Elon Musk among the most prominent voices condemning the move. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO, known for his outspoken political commentary, called the arrest “messed up” in a post on X, highlighting what he sees as a troubling pattern of political suppression in the European Union.
Georgescu, a staunch critic of military aid to Ukraine and a proponent of Romanian sovereignty, was arrested on February 25, just as he was preparing to file his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election. The arrest, coupled with widespread police raids on his supporters and campaign associates, has raised concerns about the state of democracy in Romania.
Local media reports suggest that Georgescu is being investigated for his alleged involvement in a “fascist organization” and for promoting controversial ideologies.
