Food banks' struggle

While speaking with Pat Tate of Neighbor to Neighbor recently, something I was aware of was validated: Our Arkansas food banks are being depleted due to federal and state cuts, and yet more people (daily!) are going to them while food prices rise.

This made me think of the biblical quote from the Book of James: "If anyone then knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is a sin for them." If you aren't helping those in need, well, you know the price you pay, the Lord has said it is so. It is time to help our food banks in particular. We are Arkansans and people should not be hungry here. As Ms. Tate told me, the price of getting food into the food bank has more than doubled what it cost last year already, and we are only two-thirds of the way into this year. Do the good thing: Give now.

The Aug. 17 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette featured a story on Dr. Ahmad Yousaf, a pediatrician from Little Rock who recently traveled to Gaza with Heroic Hearts, a nonprofit that sends medical mission teams into conflict zones.

Dr. Yousaf reported the horrifying conditions he witnessed firsthand, including people being killed simply for trying to retrieve bags of flour. His story highlights the daily........
