If you were not in Fayetteville last Monday afternoon, or if you did not have a student or loved one who was attending class or working on campus at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville that day, it is unlikely you know what it really felt like for a few hours here.
Your phone began vibrating, and you either received an automated alert or a barrage of messages about the alert, warning students of a reported active shooter on campus. It is possible you scrolled social media to see if there was any evidence of a shooter. Over the course of the next hour, phrases entered your mind like "body count," "manifesto," "multiple shooters," and more. Possibly you prayed or got angry or spread an unverified piece of information in the hopes it would help someone.
