While hosting Premier Doug Ford for a fireside chat at the Empire Club, Ford asked Mulroney about his political ambitions. Ford telegraphed that he was going to ask Mulroney a question while giving his keynote address to the business group gathered for lunch.

“Ben, I understand we’re going to have a good conversation. We’re going to sit down and have a good chat,” Ford said while chuckling at the podium.

“Be ready. I have a question for you when we get up here. I won’t say what it is until you get up here.”

When Ford and Mulroney sat down to have a chat after Ford’s speech, Mulroney was upfront.

“You had a question for me, sir?” Mulroney asked.
