Commentary: Hochul’s auto insurance plans don't address the real cause of high rates

Affordability is the defining issue of our time. No question, car insurance premiums are too high and the insurance industry’s playbook of “deny, delay and defend” should be stopped. But Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposed changes to the state’s auto insurance liability system would simply shift costs from Big Insurance to taxpayers.
The proposals she outlined in her State of the State speech would let insurance companies and ridesharing behemoths avoid their own responsibility for bad acts.
