Comment: Call daylight time what it is: artificial time
A commentary by a Ladysmith resident.
Sunday morning was perfect — sunlight spilling in as the coffee brewed, no need to rise in darkness. That’s the logic of Standard Time (or True Time).
And it set me thinking as I drank in the warm brew and the bright view.
The name Daylight Saving Time misleads; “Artificial Time” would be more accurate. We don’t save daylight — we just move the clock and pretend the sun changed.
Daylight Saving Time sounds virtuous, while Standard Time sounds dull.
Politicians and much of the public think longer evenings mean more daylight, and few can keep straight which half of the year is which, anyway.
So they back the option that feels like........
