Just a bit over two months before Israel’s election day on October 27th, we are seeing something developing in Israeli society that is somewhat unique and more than mildly concerning. There seems to be a certain complacency developing regarding actions that are clearly detrimental to the society which, if left unchecked, will also make us complicit in the resultant negative effects of the events themselves.

There is, of course, more than a subtle difference between those two words. Being complicit means you share guilt in doing something wrong. Being complacent means you are overly comfortable or lazy and fail to act out of indifference, not shared wrongdoing. Yet, of course, one can clearly lead to the other and neither are positive signs for a society that sees itself as valuing each and every life equally.
