READERS FORUM: Library changes having big impact on homeschooling

As a parent in a homeschool family, I rely on the library to provide essential services to us in three important ways: curriculum, recreation and community.
My children have been to many library branches and have always felt comfortable and welcomed by staff.
One of the best things about the Schenectady County Public Library’s Join Automation Project was the ability to request books from over 49 libraries and the Mohawk Valley Library System (MVLS) directly.
This gave us the flexibility to visit any library close to us (some in other counties), learn about local history and borrow science kits for in home experiments.
We were always able to find all the books in a series in physical form and I was able to plan for the new school year knowing that I would be able to find most of the obscure, out-of-print, classics and homeschool books.
