EDITORIAL: Commissioner’s huge pay raise needs scrutiny
Major League slugger Juan Soto recently signed a 15-year contract with the New York Mets that will pay him an average annual salary of $51 million.
Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, who oversees the entire sport, is expected to make around $17 million this year.
By the logic of the state Board of Regents, Manfred should make at least as much as Soto, since Manfred oversees an entire league in which Soto is but one player.
But you don’t see the Major League owners rushing out to give Manfred a huge pay raise to help him catch up.
